DUH!Tube Woes

YT is suddenly down (10/3/09) for maintenance ... again. Not scheduled maintenance, but what appears to be a system crash. That's twice in 30 minutes.

Hopefully, they will ultimately fix the latest round of problems:
1) disappearing comments
2) invisible playlists on new beta channels

1) Batches of comments are disappearing from new videos and, more broadly, from the comment sections of older videos. Conversations are vanishing into to the ether. Ideally, YouTube will eventually attach a number, or another form of tag, to comments. This would make it easy to find replies on high-volume videos. Currently, replying to a reply requires finding the thread amidst hundreds, even thousands, of comments.

It would also be very helpful to have a small icon appear next to comments. This is available on message boards, and would make matters simpler on YouTube. We are visual animals with a chunk of brain devoted to face recognition. This results in our finding it easier to recognize icons and avatars than names.

2) Alpha channels, and those channels that had playlists before switching from alpha to beta designs, have no problems. Channels opened after beta became the default design support playlists internally, but the module does not appear on the channel page, and, more problematic, the playlist address leads only to a "no videos" message.
